Ask
Asking Kairos about your accounts and sessions — the questions it answers, Ask about this, how an answer is checked, How I got this, Keep on Today, recent chats, what it offers to do, and when Claude answers instead of the device.
Ask answers questions about your accounts, sessions and Mac in plain words, with rows or a chart, from the numbers Kairos keeps. By default it runs on Apple's on-device model, and nothing leaves your devices.
Where to ask
- Ask on Today: "Ask about your agents".
- Ask about this on an insight, a chart, an account (its menu's Ask About This…) or a session: the chat opens about that thing. Its name heads the chat; the x takes it off ("Remove what this chat is about").
On a Mac and an iPhone the chat opens as a sheet; Done closes it.
What it can answer
Suggestions offer the questions Kairos can work out:
| Question | Worked out from |
|---|---|
| Which projects used the most? | Claude Code's record of requests. |
| How many hours did my agents work? | The same, for a day, a range or a project. |
| When did my accounts hit their limits? | The usage history. |
| How long did sessions wait at limits? | Claude Code's record of stops. |
| What is slowing my Mac? | Each session's measured resources. |
| Which account has room now? | Every tool's accounts. |
| How fast are my accounts being used up? | The week plan. |
| What happened overnight? | The brief. |
| When does capacity go unused? | The usage history. |
| Which sessions write the most to disk? | Measured resources. |
| Which sessions use the most memory? | Measured resources. |
| Which sessions are waiting for me? | The live sessions. |
| What is this session using? | One session's resources. |
A follow-up changes the question: "show me last week", "only work". Each question can take a range (a day, a week, a month), an account, a project or a session. When Kairos does not keep what a question needs, the answer says so.
With Apple Intelligence, you can ask in your own words: the on-device model picks which of these questions answer it, asks the Mac's engine, and says the answer in its own words.
An answer
- Rows or a chart, under the words.
- How I got this: the question Kairos worked out and what from.
- "A sentence with a number Kairos could not find in its records was left out." Every number in an answer must come from Kairos's records; a sentence that cites one it cannot find is dropped.
- Keep on Today ("Show this on Today, asked again with fresh numbers") pins the answer to Today, marked "Kept by you". Take off Today removes it.
What it offers to do
An answer can offer an action. Both ask first:
| Offer | What it does |
|---|---|
| Run work on spare capacity? | "Kairos holds it while its account has none to spare." Puts it on Later. |
| Switch to side? | "New sessions use it now." See Rotation. |
Recent chats
Recent lists past chats, "kept on this device". Open one to carry on. Delete This Chat and Delete All Chats remove them. "No recent chats" when there are none.
With Claude
With Deeper insights on, a question the device would answer runs on Claude instead, on a small model and only on spare capacity, and the answer is marked With Claude: "This answer was written by Claude, on spare capacity, from Kairos's numbers."
- Claude can only read Kairos's numbers, through two read-only tools; it has no other tool, file or setting.
- What is sent: your question, what the chat is about, and the numbers, names and times the tools return. Never a transcript, code, a path or a session's title.
- With no account to spare, the device answers.
Without Apple Intelligence
One quiet line says what still works:
- "Without Apple Intelligence, Kairos answers its suggestions and follow-ups on what is shown here."
- "Questions in your own words need Apple Intelligence; the suggestions work without it."
- "Apple Intelligence is still getting ready; the suggestions work meanwhile."
- "Apple Intelligence does not answer in this language yet."
