Disk space
Hardware's Disk part: free space on your Mac and what holds it — the groups Kairos measures, free space over time, held by day, what grew, each group's largest folders and what can be freed.
Under Hardware's Disk, before the disk's activity, Space shows how much free space your Mac has, how that changed, and who holds the rest: your sessions, your repositories, your coding tools, developer files and more. It measures folders on the Mac, only while you look, and never deletes anything.
Who holds it
A bar splits the disk into the groups Kairos measures, Everything else and Free. "Used 467 GB of 494 GB" under it. Pick a group to see only it; All groups goes back.
| Group | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Sessions | Each session's temporary files. |
| Repositories | Each repository: its history (the .git folder), its files and its other worktrees. |
| Coding tools | Each coding tool's own folders: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Devin, Gemini, Copilot, Kiro and the others, and Kairos's own. |
| Developer | Xcode builds and archives, Simulators, Docker, the Android SDK, and package caches such as npm, pnpm, Gradle, Rust, Go and Python. |
| Apps | Logs, and each app's caches and support folders. Apple's own folders (mail, messages, photos and the like) are never looked in. |
| Home folder | Other files and folders in your home folder. |
| Memory on disk | Swap files: memory macOS moved to the disk, in use and unused. |
| Everything else | macOS, the apps, and folders Kairos does not look in. |
"Kairos doesn't look in Desktop, Documents, Downloads, Pictures, Movies, Music or apps' private data; they count in Everything else, with macOS and the apps."
Charts
| Chart | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Free space | The Mac's free space over the range: "free of 494.4 GB · 7.3 GB less than on Oct 28". |
| Held by day | "The folders Kairos measures, by group." "The days fill in as Kairos measures." until there are some. |
Range picks 7 days, 30 days (the default) or 90 days.
Lists
- What grew: "Since Oct 28", what got bigger, for example "+1.2 GB · new". "Nothing grew." or "Nothing to compare with yet".
- One list for each group: its largest folders, each with what makes it up, and "15.6 GB can be freed" where part of it is a cache that can be rebuilt. The smallest are folded into "Other" ("12 more").
A folder marked "still measuring" was not finished in the last run; the next run measures what was left. The header says "Measuring…" while a run goes on, and "measured 2 min ago" after.
When it is empty
| It says | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Not measured yet. Kairos measures the folders on your Mac while Disk is open. | Open Hardware's Disk and leave it open for a minute. |
| Measuring the folders on your Mac… | The first run is in progress. |
| Disk needs Kairos 2.0.65 on your Mac | The engine is older. See Updates. |
On an iPhone and iPad
On an iPhone and iPad it is under Hardware's Disk too. Measuring happens on the Mac while Disk is open on any device, the web dashboard's included.
