What Kairos does by itself
Later
Work put off until there is capacity that would otherwise expire — tasks Kairos starts in a worktree of their own, sessions that run only on spare capacity, their states, and the command.
Later runs work only on capacity that would otherwise expire unused: the room the week plan expects an account to leave unspent within a day.
There are two ways to put work off.
A task for later
Write what it should do and the repository it works in; Kairos starts it when an account has capacity to spare.
- Sessions › Later › Put Off a Task…. The sheet, "Put off for later", asks What should it do? and the Repository (with the repositories your sessions ran in lately). "It starts in a worktree of its own when an account has capacity that would otherwise go unused."
- From Terminal:
claude-rotation later add "update the dependencies" --dir ~/code/app.
A task starts as a background Claude Code session, in a git worktree of its own on a new branch named worktree-kairos- and its id, on the account whose spare capacity expires first. One task runs per account at a time. It may edit files in its worktree, and is otherwise bound by your own permission rules. Nothing merges: when it is done, you review its branch.
| It says | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Waits for spare capacity | No account has capacity to spare yet. |
| Could not start yet; tries again | The last try failed; it tries again in a few minutes. |
| Running on spare capacity of side | It runs now, on that account. |
| Done at 03:40 · branch worktree-kairos-… | Finished; review the branch. |
| Could not start | It failed to start. |
Remove (right-click, or swipe on an iPhone) takes a task off the list. From Terminal: claude-rotation later lists them, claude-rotation later remove ID removes one.
A session on spare capacity
On a session you are happy to have wait, turn on Run on spare capacity in its detail. "Kairos holds it while its account has none to spare, and continues it, or moves it, when one does." If you carry on with it yourself, it is yours again and no longer put off. See Sessions.
The opposite switch, Keep working through pauses, is for the session that matters most: "Kairos never asks it to pause before the accounts run out. If its account stops it, Kairos still asks it to continue once there is room." See The capacity guard.
Night Shift
Chores for the night are tasks too, started only while you are away. See Night Shift.
