Install
Get Kairos on a Mac, set it up, keep it current and take it off again; and get Kairos Code on an iPhone or iPad.
What you need
- A Mac with macOS 15 or later. Kairos for Mac is free.
- At least one coding tool signed in on that Mac, Claude Code first of all. Kairos never installs Claude Code itself: it needs your own installation and sign-in.
- For the iPhone and iPad app, Kairos Code, iOS or iPadOS 26 or later and the Mac on the same Wi-Fi the first time.
Get Kairos for Mac
Pick one:
- Download. The Download button on kairos.matihlabs.com gives
Kairos-macOS.dmg. Open it and drag Kairos to Applications. - Homebrew. In Terminal:
brew install --cask matih-labs/tap/kairos
Open Kairos from Applications. If it is not in Applications yet, the first screen says so: "Kairos is not in Applications yet. There it keeps itself up to date."
Set it up
The first time it opens, Kairos walks you through a few steps: see Setting up on a Mac. The one that matters here is Set Up: "Setting up adds two background items to this Mac and, if it has none, downloads Python for them. It needs the internet."
Setting up does four things, and shows each as it goes:
- Python for Kairos. It installs
uvif the Mac has none, and Python through it. - Kairos's files. The engine goes to
~/.local/bin/claude-rotation, its data to~/Library/Application Support/ClaudeRotation. - Start Kairos on this Mac. Two LaunchAgents: the scheduler, which checks your accounts, and the engine that serves the app, the phone and the dashboard on
127.0.0.1:47615. - A first check of your accounts.
From Terminal, the same is claude-rotation install (with --progress it prints each step as the app shows it).
Keep it current
Kairos updates itself: about once a day it asks kairos.matihlabs.com whether there is a newer version, sending only its own version, and installs it when its window is closed or it quits. See Updates. With Homebrew, brew upgrade does the same.
claude-rotation version prints the version of the engine on this Mac. Settings › General › About shows both the app's and the engine's: when the engine is older than the app, some screens say "Kairos on this Mac is older than this app: update it to see …".
Check it is working
| Command | What it shows |
|---|---|
claude-rotation status |
Whether the scheduler and the engine are installed and running, the account in use and the configuration. |
claude-rotation diagnose |
A longer look at the installation: files, LaunchAgents, the engine's port, the shell line, each account's folder. |
claude-rotation help |
Every command, the defaults and where Kairos keeps its files. |
Take it off
In Kairos, Settings › General › Kairos on this Mac › Remove Kairos…. The dialog says exactly what goes and what stays:
- Removed: the line in your shell's startup file and the status-line recorder, the two background items, Kairos's files and session index, and opening at login.
- Kept: your accounts, logs, settings and history in
~/Library/Application Support/ClaudeRotation, anduvand Python. Running sessions carry on.
Afterwards Settings says "Kairos is off this Mac. To finish, quit Kairos and move it to the Trash." From Terminal, claude-rotation uninstall removes the background items and leaves your accounts, logs and configuration; claude-rotation shell --remove takes the shell line out.
Get Kairos Code for iPhone and iPad
Kairos Code is coming to the App Store. It shows what Kairos runs on your Mac, so it needs a Mac with Kairos first. On first open it offers a short tour and then Connect your Mac: see Welcome and the tour and Pairing.
